"When you think you're at the end of something, you're at the beginning of something else". This is a quote by Fred Rodgers and is very appropriate as we say good bye to summer and begin a new school year. Our new year will be a journey of new friends and new experiences.
Our early childhood curriculum is skillfully woven to combine fun and learning. We provide an environment that allows for hands-on learning, and time to play and experiment. We all know children are born curious and creative, but too often the forced structure of formal schooling erodes children's sense of wonder. At Kidtown USA, we inspire a child's sense of wonder through activities that excite and delight.
Throughout the day, children are exploring, discovering, and learning together. Play is the primary way that young children make sense of the world around them, learn new ideas and skills, develop creative thinking and problem solving skills, and deal with stress. What is learned through play provides an essential foundation for later academic learning. Young children are movers and shakes and they learn by actively doing. Play is part of a well-rounded curriculum.
Anything that gets children's hands and bodies working together is bound to jump start the creative learning process. The purpose of early childhood programs should be to prepare children to be lifelong learners and to develop creative skills that will prepare them for the future. When the preschool environment has the right balance of structured learning and play, you have a rich tapestry of opportunities for academic and social development. Give a child art supplies and you've got a recipe for tons of laughter, learning, and creativity. Einstein once said, "Imagination is more important than knowledge". It is interesting to note that art and language/writing skills enhance learning simultaneously. Written language and art...it all begins with a line. Think of the amusing words of the famous artist Paul Kelee ~ "A line is a dot out for a walk".
The most important thing adults can offer children is to instill the joy of learning ~ and then have a desire to learn more!!! Play is the best way to get ready for anything life has to offer. Our play-based curriculum embraces academic and social learning in a joyful way.
